Walsh's most enthusiastic and visible supporter is Dale Howard, Vice President for Athletics/Director of Athletics. Howard continues to be dedicated to the development and success of the Walsh University Athletic programs, and student-athlete achievements both in the classroom and on the field. During his tenure, Howard was the driving force behind the approval and implementation of the football program, Men’s and Women’s Lacrosse, and in the fall of 2018, Men’s and Women’s Bowling. He played key roles the development and design of the athletic fields and tennis courts on Walsh’s north property as well as Walsh’s new basketball venue, Alumni Arena. He led the charge for Walsh’s acceptance as full members of NCAA II, and the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC), and most recently to the Great Midwest Athletic Conference.
During his tenure as Vice President/Athletic Director, he has been instrumental in the growth of the department, especially in terms of the number of student-athletes participating in intercollegiate sports, from 350 student athletes while still members of the NAIA to 650 student athletes as members of the NCAA II.
Howard came to Walsh from Bowling Green State University. He has an ABD in Higher Educational Administration from Bowling Green State University, a master's degree in higher education administration from the University of Northern Colorado, Greeley and a B.S. in education from the State University at Brockport, New York.
Howard and his wife, Janet are the parents of two boys, Ryan (Syracuse University ‘06, now living in Miami, Florida) and Matthew (St. Bonaventure University, ’08, now living in Waltham, Massachusetts, His daughter, Kelli (The Ohio State University ‘17) resides in Cleveland, Ohio. The Howard’s reside in North Canton.
