  • Walsh Baseball Earns ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award Second Time

    The American Baseball Coaches Association is proud to honor over 200 college and high school programs with this year's ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award. Teams from every level of college and high school baseball were honored with the award, which recognizes teams coached by ABCA members that posted a GPA over 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for the 2016-17 academic year.
  • Szink Honored With GLIAC Commissioner's Award

    The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) announced the recipients of the Spring 2017 GLIAC Commissioner’s Awards on Thursday (June 15). The awards are presented after the Fall, Winter, and Spring athletic seasons to six female and six male student-athletes that excel both in the classroom and on the fields of play. All grade-point averages are based on a 4.0 scale.
  • Szink, McSweeney Earn All-American Honors

    Walsh’s Austin Szink and Ryan McSweeney both have been named All-American Honorable Mentions as the icing on the cake of their incredible baseball careers. Szink earned accolades by both the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) and D2 Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA), while McSweeney was honored by the NCBWA.

    The 2017 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. II All-Region teams and Regional Players of the Year have been announced in all eight regions. Walsh’s Austin Szink and Ryan McSweeney were named as First Team selections, while Matt Iosue was named to the Second Team.

    More postseason honors have come in for Austin Szink and Ryan McSweeney as both have been named to the 2017 National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) All-Midwest Region First Team. Both were to the All-GLIAC First Team.
  • Baseball Quartet Named To D2CCA All-Region Team

    Four Cavaliers have been named to the D2CCA Baseball All-Midwest Region Team as voted on by the region’s sports information directors. Austin Szink and Matt Iosue were both named as First Team selections, while Andrew Stalnaker and Ryan McSweeney earned Second Team honors.
  • Former Cav Brook Clark Drafted By Traverse City

    The Traverse City Beach Bums of the Frontier League has drafted former Cavalier and Walsh alumnus Brook Clark with their second round pick this season. He’s the first Cavalier to sign to play professional baseball.
  • Cavs' Tournament Run Ends With 2-1 Loss To Northwood
    May 12, 2017
    Walsh’s bid for a GLIAC championship ended at the hands of top-seeded Northwood by a score of 2-1 to eliminate the Cavaliers at Grady’s Field on Friday afternoon. The No. 4 Cavaliers (32-18) once again outhit their opponent today, but the Timberwolves were able to edge Walsh by a single run for fourth time this year.
  • Baseball Tripped Up By Tiffin In Tournament Opener
    May 11, 2017
    No. 4 Walsh fell in its opening game of the GLIAC Tournament by a score of 3-2 to No. 3 Tiffin at Grady’s Field at the Athletes In Action Sports Complex on Thursday evening. The Cavaliers (32-17) will now take on top-seeded Northwood at 2 p.m. tomorrow.
  • Baseball Ready For GLIAC Tournament

    The field is set for the 2017 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Baseball Tournament beginning Thursday, May 11 at the Athletes in Action Sports Complex. The six-team, double-elimination format will run through Sunday when a tournament champion will be crowned.
  • Super Seven Named To All-GLIAC Team

    The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) announced its 2017 All-GLIAC Baseball Teams and Postseason Awards in conjunction with the Conference's annual Baseball Tournament at the Athletes in Action Sports Complex in Xenia, Ohio. The Walsh Cavaliers had seven players selected to tie them for the most by a single team.
  • Walsh Splits With Wayne State On Senior Day

    Fans were treated to a pair of exciting games as Walsh closed out the season with Wayne State at Biery Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The Cavaliers (32-16, 19-11) defeated the Warriors (31-17, 20-10) in walk-off fashion in the opening game, but came up just short in a high-scoring 15-14 affair in the regular season finale.
  • Caple Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District Team

    Walsh’s Luke Caple has been selected to the NCAA Division II District 4 First Team as a designated hitter. The senior from Naples, Fla., also serves as the team’s catcher.
  • Walsh Sweeps Battle Between Regionally Ranked Teams

    Two teams ranked No. 8 in their respective regions squared off in a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon with Walsh winning the battle with a sweep of Slippery Rock. The Cavaliers (31-15) took game one 8-2 to reach the 30-win plateau before coming from behind to defeat The Rock 6-4 in the second.

    (NORTH CANTON, Ohio) - Walsh and Slippery Rock will gather tomorrow for a doubleheader at Biery Stadium after recent rains have left Slippery Rock's field unplayable. The two teams will play the twin bill with the first pitch slated for 2 p.m. Both games will be seven-inning games.

    The Walsh baseball team split the day and the series with Saginaw Valley State with a 5-4 win in Game 3 before an 8-5 loss in the series finale. The win clinched a playoff spot for the Cavaliers (29-15, 18-10) and they will head to Xenia, Ohio for the second-straight season.

    Matt Iosue hurled another gem to help Walsh split with Saginaw Valley State in GLIAC action on Friday afternoon. The Cavaliers (28-14, 17-9) won game one by a score of 9-0 before the Cardinals (16-26, 10-16) answered with a 12-10 win in game two.

    The Walsh baseball team suffered a pair of tough one-run defeats against GLIAC-leading Northwood at Gerace Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The Cavaliers (27-13, 16-8) are now a half-game behind Wayne State for second place in the GLIAC and four games back of the Timberwolves (33-9, 20-4) at the top of the standings.

    In a battle between the two top teams in the GLIAC, Walsh was edged in both games of a doubleheader against Northwood by scores of 1-0 and 8-6 in 14 innings. The Cavaliers (27-11, 16-6) will get another crack at the Timberwolves (31-9, 18-4) as they close the series with another twin bill tomorrow.
  • Baseball Breaks Record Books as Cavs Crush Ohio Dominican

    Walsh offense figuratively exploded in a sweep of Ohio Dominican to take the series from the Panthers at Panther Valley on Wednesday afternoon. The Cavaliers (27-9, 16-4) took the opener 10-5 before demolishing the Panthers (18-16, 9-10) 28-4 in the nightcap.

    Johnny Knight IV had a memorable day as he was heavily involved in the outcome of both games in Walsh’s doubleheader sweep of Findlay on Saturday afternoon. The Cavaliers (25-9, 14-5) defeated the Oilers (17-16, 7-13) 5-2 in the opening game and 5-4 in 10 innings in the second.

    Pitching was on display as Walsh shutout Findlay in both games of a doubleheader at Fifth Third Field on Friday afternoon. The Cavaliers (23-9, 12-4) took the opener by a score of 3-0 before they downed the Oilers (17-14, 7-11) 1-0 in the second game.

    With a 5-2 victory against Cedarville, Walsh reached the 20-win plateau in the first full week of April in a split against its former and future conference rivals. The Cavaliers (20-8) later dropped a 6-1 contest to the Yellow Jackets (7-19) in Game 2.

    The Walsh baseball team swept its rival Malone in doubleheader by scores of 8-2 and 9-3 at Biery Stadium Wednesday afternoon. The sweep gives the Cavaliers (19-7) a 3-1 series win over the Pioneers (15-11) after a split last week.

    Walsh split the day and series with Ashland with a 5-4 win in Game 3 before a 6-0 defeat in the finale. The Cavaliers are now 17-7 overall and 9-3 in the GLIAC. The Eagles now stand at 12-16 overall and 5-7 in the conference.

    In its return to GLIAC action, the Walsh baseball team split with Ashland with a 4-0 win in the opener before a high-scoring 19-13 defeat in the nigh cap. The Cavaliers are no 16-6 overall and 8-2 in the GLIAC, while the Eagles are 11-15 and 4-6 in the same categories.
  • Walsh Walks Off Again In Split With Malone
    March 29, 2017
    Walking off has become the trend for Walsh at it came down to the last at-bat in the opening game of a twin bill against rival Malone. That’s when Tyson Lautanen singled to center to allow Austin Szink to score from second and give the Cavaliers a 9-8 win.
