Cavs Clobber Falcons 9-1

(AUBURNDALE, Fla.) – Every batter recorded at least one hit as Walsh defeated former conference rival Notre Dame 9-1 at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational Tuesday afternoon. The Cavaliers (5-1) continued their hot start to the season in belting out 15 hits against the Falcons (3-6).

The Cavaliers broke the game open in the seventh when they scored five runs to take a commanding 8-1 lead over their neighbors to the north. Austin Szink ignited the rally when he hit his second homer of the season that also scored Andrew Stalnaker and Luke Caple. James Thomas followed with a two-RBI single to left that brought in Tyson Lautanen and Johnny Knight IV.

Szink finished the day an amazing 3-for-5 with four RBI and three runs scored. He was one of five players to have multiple hits. Marcus Bobb, Eric Conner, Stalnaker, and Lautanen all had two hits on the day.

On the hill, Mark Mittiga went six innings and allowed just one run on four hits with three strikeouts. Frank Frate, Lautanen, and McSweeney all pitched a full inning to close the game.

Walsh will now take on Minnesota State-Mankato tomorrow afternoon at Lake Myrtle Park Field No. 3. First pitch is set for 3:15.
