(COLUMBUS, Ohio) – Walsh dropped both games of Saturday's G-MAC twin bill at No. 24 Ohio Dominican by scores of 6-2 and 19-7 at Panther Valley. The Cavaliers (21-18, 14-10) now hold a slim lead over Lake Erie for the final playoff spot in the G-MAC Tournament.
In both games, the Maroon and Gold took early leads only to see the Panthers (30-11, 16-6) answer and pull ahead in the middle innings of the game.
In the opener, Alec Debruler initially put Walsh on the board after he took advantage of a Panther error and scored from third. Eric Conner later gave the Cavs a 2-0 lead on a single to right that brought in Spencer Helwig.
The lead lasted for two innings until Ohio Dominican plated two in the fourth. The Panthers went on to take the lead in the fifth and added insurance runs in the sixth.
Game two was much more of a high scoring affair. Walsh jumped out to a 3-0 lead over the first two innings and added three more in the third, but Ohio Dominican also had its offense going and took a 9-6 lead by the fourth innings.
Walsh added its final run in the fifth, but a nine-run sixth by ODU put the game out of reach for the Cavaliers.
The Cavaliers are currently scheduled to play three non-conference games before they close the regular season with a three-game series with Hillsdale. The first of those games of those comes Tuesday at Slippery Rock.
