WEST LIBERTY, W. Va. - The Walsh Cavaliers baseball team pounded 11 runs on 15 hits as the Cavaliers concluded non-conference play on Wednesday (May 1) with an 11-2 victory over the West Liberty Hilltoppers.
Eric Conner hit a solo homerun in the top of the first inning as Walsh took a 1-0 lead two batters in. A six-run second inning pushed the lead to 7-0 over the Hilltoppers. Alec DeBruler and Bailey Mosley had sacrifice flies before Conner lined a two-run double. Andrew Czech and Avery Janning added RBI singles within the frame. The Cavaliers added four runs in the fifth for an 11-0 advantage. Joey Holiga plated a RBI single before a Hilltoppers error allowed a Cavaliers run to cross the plate. Jacob Beachy roped a RBI double and Cobe Hutchison followed with a RBI single. West Liberty scored two runs in the sixth inning for the final 11-2 score.
Hutchison went three-for-four with three singles, a RBI and a run scored. Holiga added three hits with one run batted in and two runs scored. Conner drove in three runs with two extra base hits and two runs scored.
Caleb Canter tossed three scoreless innings while Aidan Mlachak, Austin Clark, and MJ Nara threw scoreless innings out of the bullpen. Tyler Giesige added two scoreless frames in relief with three strikeouts.
Walsh closes the regular season with four games at home against Tiffin, starting on Friday (May 3) at 1:00 PM.
