Men's Basketball Battles To Hold Off Kentucky Wesleyan

(OWENSBORO, Kentucky)- The Walsh University Men's Basketball team walked away with the win over Kentucky Wesleyan 61-60 in their conference match up in Owensboro to put them at 8-4 for the season, 4-1 in the conference. Both teams went back and forth until the clock ran out in a hard fought battle.

Darryl Straughter led the way for the Cavaliers with 23 points on the night, 5 rebounds and 2 steals. Straughter would later hit a jumpshot with seconds left in the game to put the Cavs on top by 1 and to bring home the win against the Panthers. Backing him up was Reece Bogan with 15 points, all of which were from behind the three point line. Back to back 3 pointers from Bogan in the final minute and a half of the game would give the Cavaliers the momentum needed heading down the stretch.

The powerful duo of Shumate and Christy dominated the boards for the Cavs. JT Shumate had 7 rebounds and 10 points and Sterling Christy scored 9 points and also contributed 7 rebounds in the victory over the Panthers. The Maroon and Gold took advantage of Panther mistakes and added 15 points off of turnovers. The Cavaliers fared better in the second half improving their overall Field Goal percentage by over twenty percent.

Mohamed Abu Arisha would lead the Panthers with 20 points and 12 rebounds.

The Men's Basketball team travels a little further South to take on Trevecca Nazarene Saturday at 5.
