Shumate Leads Cavs Past Battlers

(PHILLIPI, WV) - The Walsh University men's basketball team concluded their West Virginia road trip with an 81-74 win over Alderson Broaddus. Today's win puts the Cavs at 17-7 overall and 12-4 in the conference. 

The Cavliers put on a strong first half performance, winning the half 41-31. Alderson Broaddus came back in the second half, winning that half 43-40, but JT Shumate was a force to be reckoned with as he scored 20 of his 37 points in the second half. Shumate's 37 point performance is a career best for the freshman forward.

Darryl Straughter scored 18 on the night, while also dishing out a team-best six assists. Sterling Christy was just shy of a double-double as he posted 14 points and gathered eight rebounds. Caleb Canter was also solid on the glass tying Christy for game-high honors with eight rebounds. 

The Cavs return home Thursday (Feb. 14) to take on Trevecca Nazarene at 7:30 p.m.
