MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – After hanging tough with the #15 Mount Olive Trojans in the first quarter, the Walsh Cavaliers men's lacrosse team was defeated 11-3 on the road on Tuesday (March 5) afternoon.
The first quarter featured a defensive battle as neither team scored until nearly nine minutes in. Mount Olive scored two goals in the final 6:42 of the first quarter as they led 2-0.
The Trojans added two more goals over the first nine minutes of the second quarter, expanding the lead to 4-0. Five minutes later, Walsh broke the shutout with an unassisted goal by Brian Apshago. With less than one minute left before halftime, Mount Olive made the score 5-1. The Trojans led 5-1 at the intermission.
In the first four minutes, the Trojans pushed the lead to 7-1 with a pair of goals. With 10:30 left in the third, Tyler Stowell scored for the Cavaliers. Over the next six minutes, Mount Olive responded with two more goals. Marcus Brown ended the third quarter scoring with a goal for the Maroon and Gold. Mount Olive led 9-3 after three frames.
The fourth quarter featured another low scoring quarter as Mount Olive scored two goals, making the final score 11-3.
Stowell, Apshago and Brown each scored one goal for the Cavaliers.
Patrick Cuddihy made 14 saves in goal for the Cavaliers.
Walsh will conclude the trip down South with a game at Mars Hill on Saturday (March 9) at 1:00 PM.
