Walsh Evens With Salem 3-3

(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – The Walsh men's soccer team scored even with Salem International with a 3-3 draw at Milazzo Field this afternoon. The Cavaliers (1-0-1) opened up the game with the first two goals, but saw the Tigers (0-1-1) respond to tie on two separate occasions.

JP Alexis opened the scoring in the 22nd minute on an unassisted strike to beat the goalkeeper on the left side. John Nestenborg made it 2-0 just 2:31 later on the assist from Brandon Denton.

It was at that time that Salem's offense started to heat up as it tied the game on goals by Federico Toschi and Vitor Teixeira.

Walsh eventually regained the lead just a few minutes later as Steven Harris blasted a shot from about 30 yards out that nicked the crossbar in the upper right 90 and bounced in.

The score remained 3-2 through halftime and stayed there until the final 10 minutes of regulation. That's when Ameen El-Shami scored at 82:58.

Both teams had opportunities in overtime, but neither could generate many shots on goal with Walsh making two saves against Salem's one.

Walsh now starts a four-game road stretch that sees the Cavaliers visit their southern neighbors Malone on Wednesday. It will be the G-MAC opener for both teams with kickoff scheduled for 4 p.m.
