(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – The Walsh men's soccer team faced good news and bad news on Thursday evening. The bad news was that the Cavaliers (6-7-1, 5-6) lost to Davis & Elkins 1-0 after a late first half goal held up for the Senators (10-2-2, 9-1-2). The good news was that despite the loss, the Cavaliers have qualified for the G-MAC tournament and will play in the quarterfinals next Saturday.
Walsh is currently tied with Ohio Dominican in seventh place in the conference. The top four teams host the quarterfinal round. With today's win, Davis & Elkins clinched one of the top four spots.
The Senator goal came in the 39th minute when Rafa Moreno scored on the assist from Simon Hestad.
The Cavaliers had opportunities for the equalizer and tied the Senators in shots 12-12, but all four shots on goal were saved.
On the opposite end, Cavalier keeper Jon-Paul Della Pia did an outstanding effort to keep it a one-goal game with six saves.
Walsh will return to action Saturday as it hosts Alderson Broaddus in the penultimate game of the regular season. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
