(SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.) – Alex Jackson's goal with just seconds remaining in the game lifted Walsh over Slippery Rock 1-0 in double overtime Tuesday evening. The Cavaliers (7-6-1) were taking on Head Coach Andy Hoggarth's former team and was able to drop the Rock (4-7-2) by identical scores for the second year in a row.
The 2018 edition took a little longer than the 90-minute edition that started the 2017 campaign. The game was largely defensive in that while both teams were able to get shots off, only six of them – four for Walsh and two for Slippery Rock – were on target for the entire contest.
Two of those came early as the Cavs outshot the hosts 5-1 in the opening half. The Rock came back to outshoot the Maroon and Gold 9-5 in the second stanza, but Brett Ekperuoh was able to make both saves when needed as did Slippery Rock's Matt Hunsberger.
Walsh once again put on the pressure with five shots across the first and second overtime against just one for SRU which came in the first overtime. Finally, Jackson was able to break free and dribble into the box before sending it past the keeper.
The Cavaliers are now 3-1 on their six-game slate of road contests. The penultimate game of that part of the schedule comes Saturday as Walsh heads down I-77 to the Mountain State to take on Ohio Valley. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
