(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – In a nail-biting finish, Walsh defeated Tiffin 6-3 to remain unbeaten at the Klekotka Tennis Complex on Wednesday afternoon. The Cavaliers remained unbeaten at 2-0 while their former and future conference rival Dragons evened out to 1-1.
The match came down to three separate singles matches, all of which went to a third set. After Walsh started the day by winning all three doubles matches, Tiffin threatened an impressive comeback by winning the first set in five of the six singles matches.
Vasily Vidmanov successfully came back from losing the first set 6-3 at first singles with a pair of 6-4 wins. That left either Heitor Adegas or Guilherme Carneiro needing to win his match. Thankfully both did.
Adegas ended up being the deciding team point after coming back from a first set loss. After losing 6-3, he responded with a 7-5 win in the second and a 6-4 win in the third. Carneiro, the only Cavalier to win the first set in singles play (6-2), dropped the second set 6-3, but finished off the contest with a 7-5 win in the third.
The doubles portion of the day was no cakewake either. Vidmanov paired with Rodrigo Garcia to win 8-6 at first doubles. Clemens Wagner and Jonah Carter had the biggest margin of victory at second doubles with an 8-3 win. Filip Kulynych and Tim Bruin won 8-4 at third doubles.
The Cavaliers will now head to Allendale, Mich., to participate in the ITA Regional Tournament hosted by Grand Valley State.
