Walsh Wins Six Events At John Homon Open

(ALLIANCE, Ohio) – The Walsh track & field team was out in full force at Mount Union's John Homon Open this weekend and saw multiple placers in both men's and women's events. The Cavaliers finished first in six different events on the day.

Hunter Williams had perhaps the best day with two top finishes. First he won the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.99. Trenton Beachy was fifth in the same event with a time of 11.25. Williams also won the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.34.

Bryce Ostheimer won the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 56.75. He was also sixth in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.92. Zach McClaskey was fourth in the 400 meter hurdles with a 58.51.

James Miller won the shot put with a throw of 16.16 meters. Dante Penza was third with a throw of 15.12 meters. Derek Stout was eighth with a mark of 13.72 meters.

Bradley Gallitz won the hammer throw with a throw of 50.33 meters. Penza was third at 47.29 meters. Stout was seventh at 42.50 meters.

Five Cavaliers placed in the top eight in the 5,000 meter run. Jacob Kernell won the event with a time of 14:48.07. Jacob Caniford was second with a time of 14:49.79. Noah Murray was third with a time of 15:12.58. Jacob Turner was fifth with a time of 15:24.86. Ed Walsh was eighth with a time of 15:33.79.

The 4x400 meter relay team of Ostheimer, McClaskey, Solomon Yoder, and Brandyn Neal finished second with a time of 3:25.16. Andrew Dowdell tied for third in the pole vault with a height of 4.44 meters. He was also third in the javelin at 52.03 meters.

Bryce Patrick finished fourth in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 9:50.64. Dante Penza was fourth in the discus with a throw of 45.42 meters. Varney Pelima tied for fifth in the high jump with a height of 1.88 meters. Solomon Yoder was sixth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:00.13.

Walsh will be host its only home meet of the season next weekend with select athletes heading to Bucknell for the Bison Invitational.
