(ROMEOVILLE, Ill.) – The Walsh men's cross country team finished seventh in Lewis' Conference Crossover on Saturday with a score of 256. The race gave the Cavaliers a good look of teams in the regional championships in four weeks as teams from the G-MAC, GLIAC, and GLVC all participated.
Grand Valley State easily won the event with a team score of 55. Cal Baptist was second with a score of 121. Southern Indiana (150), Lindenwood (205), Lewis (205), and Alaska Anchorage (223) also finished ahead of the Cavs in the third through sixth spots.
Jacob Kernell was the first Cavalier to cross the finish line and did so with a time of 25:28.5. He was 17th overall and gave the Cavaliers their lowest score of 16 with an unattached runner finishing third.
Spencer Wirick was the next thin clad in Maroon and Gold to finish with a time of 25:48.9 and finished 44th overall. Steven Kapes followed with a time of 25:55.1 to finish 55th. Noah Murray (26:10.2) and Jacob Turner (26:18.7) completed the team score for the Cavaliers.
Walsh was the top team from the G-MAC in the event. A total of 32 teams raced in the event with 31 NCAA Division II participants. The Cavaliers will see all the teams in the conference the rest of the season with the final two regular season meets being the conference and regional championships.
The G-MAC Championships will be the next meet as the Cavaliers head down to Nashville as Trevecca Nazarene University hosts the event in two weeks.
