(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – The Walsh softball team was swept by visiting Ashland by scores of 3-1 and 8-2 on a warm Sunday afternoon. The Cavaliers dropped to 8-23 overall and 1-9 in the conference. The Eagles are now 19-16 overall and 7-5 in the GLIAC.
In the opener, the Maroon and Gold hoped to capture some of the rally magic that it received yesterday against Ohio Dominican, but this time the Cavs couldn't come back from a 3-0 deficit to tie the game. They did get one run in the final frame as Jenna Head singled up the middle to score Leah Roten.
Despite the loss, Olivia Pifer pitched an impressive game inside the circle. She allowed three runs, two earned, on five hits with two strikeouts.
Walsh was forced to play catch-up in the second game as well after Ashland jumped out to a 7-0 lead. In the top of the sixth, the Cavs scored both their runs with Roten's first home run of her collegiate career. That also scored Yasmine Rivera who opened the frame with an infield base hit.
The Cavs will return to action in a midweek doubleheader on the road at Notre Dame College. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
