Softball Splits with Notre Dame

(LYNDHURST, Ohio) – Walsh and Notre Dame College met for a non-conference doubleheader with the Cavaliers winning Game 1 5-2 before the Falcons forced the split with a 5-4 win in eight innings in Game 2.

The Cavaliers are now 9-24 on the season while the Falcons moved to 16-19.

Jenna Head got the Cavaliers on the board in the opener with a solo home run to center field in the top of the fourth. She wasn't finished as she hit another round trip with a two-run shot in the top of the sixth that also scored Abbey Yaugher to make the score 4-0 at that point. Abby Reusser singled to center later in the inning that scored Kendra Moore.

Notre Dame answered with a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth and an RBI single in the seventh, but could get no closer as Olivia Pifer shut the Falcons down the rest of the way. She improved to 5-13 with four strikeouts on the day.

In the second game, Walsh opened up with a pair of runs in the first as Kirsten Reed doubled to left center to score Head and Leah Roten. The Cavs proceeded to hold a 2-1 lead until the sixth when the Falcons tied the game.

In the eighth, Annie Woolf gave Walsh a 4-2 lead with a home run to center to score Annie Dehnke, but the Falcons scored three in the bottom of the frame and walked off on a wild pitch.

The Cavs will return to action Friday when they host Wayne State for two games.
