Walsh Wins Pair in Myrtle Beach

(MRYTLE BEACH, S.C.)- Walsh closed out the first half of spring break beating Cardinal Stritch (2-3) 3-1 and Briar Cliff (2-9) 10-4.

In the opening game, Walsh used a dominating pitching performance and solid defense to pick up the win. Reigning two-time GMAC Pitcher of the Week Olivia Pifer (6-1) picked up her sixth win of the season striking out nine while giving up five hits. Leah Roten was 1-2 with a RBI and sacrifice. Abbey Yaugher was 1-2 with a double and run scored. Hailey Warren came off the bench in the bottom of fourth and picked up an RBI on a single to center to give the Cavaliers an insurance run.

In Game Two, the Cavaliers continued to jump ahead early in games scoring three runs in the first inning. The third inning was big for Walsh scoring six of their ten runs. Five Cavaliers had multi-hit games. Jessie Rock and Alex Depue were 2-4 with two RBI. Warren and Six were 2-3 on the game, while Alaina Manor was 2-4.

Ryan Kuula (4-1) picked up her fourth win of the year after coming in as relief for Katie Herrick who pitch two innings striking out one. Kuula struck out one scattering eight hits over four innings.

Walsh has a day off tomorrow. The Maroon and Gold return to action Thursday taking on Ohio Christian at 9:30 a.m. and Waldorf at 3:30 p.m.
