Softball Tabbed to Finish Ninth in Preseason Poll

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Great Midwest Athletic Conference announced the 2019 Softball Preseason Coaches Poll presented by Under Armour on Thursday (Jan. 24).

Walsh was chosen to finish ninth of 14 teams in the conference after gaining 69 points in the poll.

The Cavaliers enter the 2019 season with a bulk of the offense returning. The top six hitters and a majority of the lineup will return for second year head coach Anna Ball. Four of the five pitchers on the pitching staff will return as well.

The Maroon and Gold saw a six-win improvement in Ball's first season over the previous season, where the team finished 20-22 overall.

Two of the three All-Conference players will return as sophomore Jessie Rock and sophomore Brooke Six are coming off successful freshman campaigns. Rock was named G-MAC Freshman of the Year and First Team All-Conference along with NFCA Second Team All-Region Midwest after she batted a team-high .433 with 19 doubles and six homeruns. Six earned Third Team All-Conference after a season batting .314 and 23 runs scored.

The regular season will start for the Cavaliers on February 9th and 10th when they travel to Harrogate, Tennessee to take on Maryville and Lincoln Memorial.
