NORTH CANTON, Ohio - The Walsh University softball team defeated the Ursuline Arrows twice this afternoon (March 27) in a G-MAC double-header at the Walsh University Softball Complex to put the Cavs at 8-20 overall and 4-4 in conference play. Walsh won the first game 1-0 and the second game 2-1 in nine innings.
The only run of the contest came in the fifth inning for the Cavaliers. Yasmine Rivera led off the inning with a walk. Katelyn Kennedy hit a sacrifice bunt to the pitcher to put Rivera in scoring position. Alina Molette then earned an RBI as she grounded out to third, scoring Rivera for the only run of the game. Alison Harper pitched a complete game for the Cavs, earning the win and putting her record at 5-9 from the circle. Brooklyn Miller recorded the loss for Ursuline.
In the second game of the day, the Cavaliers scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first. Katelyn Loughman led off with a double to right center. Alex Depue hit a sacrifice bunt, advancing Loughman. Jessie Rock connected for a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Loughman and recording the RBI. The Arrows tied the game in the top of the sixth and neither team was able to score a run in the seventh, pushing the game to extra innings. In the bottom of the ninth, Loughman scored the winning run for the Cavs on a passed ball.
Ellie Smith pitched the first five innings for the Cavaliers. Sara Gockenbach came in to pitch the next four innings, earning the win. Gockenbach's record now goes to 2-1 on the season. Nicole Rawlings took the loss for the Arrows from the circle.
Walsh will return to their home field tomorrow (March 28) to take on Notre Dame College in a non-conference double-header at 3:00 and 5:00 PM.
