Balanced Offense Helps Walsh Cruise In Season Opener

(NASHVILLE) – A balanced attack helped Walsh cruise by Quincy by a score of 75-55 in the season opening game for both teams at Trevecca Nazarene University on Friday evening. The Cavaliers and Hawks were playing the opening game of the 12th Annual Pops Duncan Classic also involving No. 7 Drury and host Trevecca.

Walsh led from the game's opening basket, a 3-pointer by Tyler Newkirk, to finish and were never really threatened by the Hawks as the Cavs outscored their opponent 22-10 after the first period of play. By halftime, a total of 10 different players had already scored for the Maroon and Gold with Jamie Halloran serving as the leading scorer with a pair of triples off the bench.

Halloran finished the game with nine after shed added another 3-pointer. Jill Blacksten also came off the bench to lead the team with 10 points. As a result, the Cavs outscored their opponents 45-23 off the bench.

Overall, Walsh shot 46.2 percent after it made 30-of-65 from the field with 11 made behind the arc.

Walsh also controlled the glass by a 40-35 margin.

The Cavaliers will have a tough opponent in tomorrow's game to complete their opening weekend experience as they take on Drury, a Sweet 16 team last year. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. with video and live stats provided.
