(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – Walsh shot a season-best 50 percent from the field and scored a season best in points in a 98-63 crushing of Alderson Broaddus Saturday afternoon. The Cavaliers (5-3, 2-0) capped a perfect week and its opening weekend in the new conference with the win against the Battlers (0-3, 0-2).
The Cavs actually trailed 23-21 after the first quarter of play, but it was all Maroon and Gold the rest of the way. Walsh opened up the frame with a layup by Jill Blacksten and then took the lead on a basket by Hochstedler to make the score 25-23. After AB's Yasmin Norman tied the game, Mayci Sales gave Walsh the lead for good with a layup just over a minute into the second.
Hochstedler had another incredible game as she scored a game-high 21 points and pulled down six rebounds. She was 7-of-8 from the field and 5-of-6 behind the arc. Sales followed and scored in double-figures for the fifth consecutive game with 15 points and was 5-of-11 from the field.
The Cavs controlled the glass in dominating fashion by a 48-29 margin. Of those, 19 were on the offensive end and helped the Cavs outscore AB 26-3 in second chance points. In the paint, Walsh outscored the Battlers 52-24.
Walsh will head back on the road net week with games at Findlay and Hillsdale.
