(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) - Freshmen JT Shumate and Quionche Carter both earned G-MAC Athlete of the Week honors following outstanding performances that helped lead their teams to a 2-0 start in conference play.
Shumate led Walsh to a 77-69 OT win over Ohio Dominican on Nov. 29 and a 96-65 win against Ohio Valley on Dec. 1. The freshman forward averaged 24.5 points per game with a 65.5 field goal percentage (19-29). The Newark, Ohio native also added 6.5 rebounds per game and 2.5 blocks per game on the week.
Carter led her team to dominating wins of 78-39 over Ohio Dominican and 90-56 over Ohio Valley. The Southfield, Michigan native contributed 25 points per contest on 66.7 percent shooting from the field (18-27). The frosh also added 7 rebounds and 3.5 steals per game to round out her superb performances.
Carter currently ranks second in the conference in scoring with 115 points on the season thus far, averaging 19.2 points per game. She also ranks third in the conference in rebounds with 47, averaging 7.8 per contest. Shumate ranks sixth in the conference in scoring with 138 total points, averaging 17.3 points per game. He also ranks second in the conference in blocked shots with 16 on the season, averaging two per contest.
