Strong Third Quarter Pushes Cavs Past Panthers, 69-61

(COLUMBUS, Ohio) - The Walsh University women's basketball team played on the road this afternoon at Ohio Dominican Univeristy. The Cavs defeated the Panthers for the second time this season, this time by a score of 69-61 to put them at 15-6 overall, and 11-4 in G-MAC play. 

The third quarter was crucial to the Cavalier victory, as Walsh outscored Ohio Dominican 25-12 on 55% shooting from the field throughout the third. Walsh reached their largest lead of 13 points twice throughout the third quarter. Once at the 3:34 mark of the quarter following a layup by Quionche Carter to make the score 47-34. With 1:31 remaining in the quarter, the Cavs went up 13 again following a 3-pointer by Hannah Blake to push the lead to 52-39. The Cavs also outrebounded the Panthers during the third quarter, 13-7. 

Carter, the freshman guard/forward, paced the Cavs with 15 points, eight rebounds, and five assists. Tyler Newkirk was efficient offensively as she also contributed 15 points on 50% shooting (4 of 8), including two 3-pointers. Kimmie Borck and Blake combined for 18 points off the bench with 10 and 8, respectively. 

Three Panthers reached double-figures as Angela Troyer lead with 15, Alexis Overly had 12, and Alexa Fisher with 10. 

Walsh women's basketball will be on the road again next week as they face Davis & Elkins on Thursday (Feb. 7) and Alderson Broaddus on Saturday (Feb. 9).
