(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – The offense was in full effect for Walsh tonight with a 7-0 thrashing of Salem International at Milazzo Field on Sunday afternoon. The Cavaliers (2-0) have now recorded shutouts in 10 of their last 20 games. It's also their biggest margin of victory since defeating the Tigers (0-2) by the same score last season.
After just missing on numerous shots in the first 20 minutes of the game, Alexis Meffert finally found the back of the net on a header after a cross from Alisha Himes in the 23rd minute. Natalie Dignan made the score 2-0 six minutes later with an assist by Sydney Santaguida.
The second half was also dominated by the Maroon and Gold. Brianna Sanborn started the second half barrage on an assist from Dobbins just three minutes in and was followed by a goal by Corynne Swift on an assist from Olivia Peters just 88 seconds later. Peters assisted on the final goal as well as she found Meffert for her second score of the afternoon.
The offense was so dominant it had possession of the ball for what seemed like the entirety of the game. Salem's opportunities were few and far between. As such, the Tigers were held without a single shot on the day.
Walsh now sets its sights on its neighbors to the south in the G-MAC opener on Thursday at Malone. It's the first of four consecutive games on the road. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
