(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – Walsh suffered its second-straight loss by a score of 2-1 to Ohio Valley in a battle between two of the top teams in the G-MAC. The Cavaliers (10-2, 7-2) also fell on Sunday afternoon, while the Fighting Scots (11-0-2, 9-0-1) added to the first place standing in the conference.
All three goals were scored in the second half. OVU jumped on top with an early goal in the period as Paula Valbuena scored off a far shot that bounced off the cross bar and deflected off of goalie Mickey McClanahan and into the net in the 53rd minute. In the 70th minute, Laura Jiminez made it 2-0 on an assist from Montserratt Grau.
Walsh was able to get on the board thanks to a long, pin-point pass from Alisha Himes near midfield to Olivia Peters on the right side of the box. Peters was able to beat her defender and finished one-on-one with OVU keeper Kimberly Mora in the 76th minute.
That was as close as Walsh could get despite being even with the Fighting Scots on shots 11-11. Walsh will return to action Saturday when it hosts long-time rival Cedarville at 3 p.m.
