Cavs Sweep Malone, Reach 14 Wins For Just Second Time In History

(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – The regular season ended on a good note for Walsh as it defeated rival Malone 2-1 to take the season sweep. The Cavaliers (14-3, 11-3) also secured the No. 3 seed in the G-MAC Tournament in the win against the Pioneers (4-9-4, 2-8-4).

The Cavs now move on to play either Ursuline or Trevecca this Saturday. Kickoff will be at 2 p.m. regardless of opponent which will be determined later this evening.

The Cavs have now won their final four games of the regular season by a combined score of 12-1. It's the most wins Walsh has had since it went 15-7 in 1997 to set the program record for victories.

It didn't take long for the Cavaliers to light up the scoreboard as Sydney Santaguida found the back of the net just 72 seconds into the game on an assist from Olivia Peters. It was Santaguida's fourth goal of the season and Peters' team-best 13th assist and 37th point of the year.

Malone was able to score the equalizer late in the first when Danielle Lung scored with under 10 minutes to go before the half.

Brianna Sanborn was able to provide the heroics as she scored her ninth goal of the season on an assist from Ashley Dobbins in the 64th minute.

Walsh was able to hold the Pioneers chances to a minimum the rest of the way. The Cavs outshot their rivals 17-6 in the game, and only three of those shots were on goal compared to six for the Cavaliers.
