Women's Tennis Tripped Up By Ashland

(ASHLAND, Ohio) – The Walsh women's tennis team opened up the season against a familiar foe in Ashland on Saturday. Unfortunately for the Cavaliers, they were defeated by the Eagles in a thrilling match that came down to the third set of a singles match.

The Maroon and Gold opened up the day with a 2-1 advantage after wins at first and second doubles. Mercedes Fernandez and Clara Drasch cruised to a win at the first spot with an 8-1 victory over Brianna Brdicka and Camille Ringot. Katarina Razum and Sofia Khairutdinova also won at the second spot by a score of 8-4 over Sofie Garpered and Allison Brooks.

Both Fernandez and Drasch were perfect on the day. Fernandez went perfect on the day with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Garpered at first singles. Drasch represented the final point for Walsh with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Brdicka.

Walsh will open the home season with another former conference rival in Tiffin on Wednesday, Sept. 20, at 2 p.m.
