Women's Track & Field Has Excellent Day at Mount Union

(ALLIANCE, Ohio) – The Walsh track & field team was out in full force at Mount Union's John Homon Open this weekend and saw multiple placers in both men's and women's events. On the women's side, the Cavaliers finished first in four different events.

Jetaiya Smith won the 400 meter dash with a time of 57.64. Andra Lehotay won the 800 meter run with a time of 2:15.37. Megan Soehnlen was seventh with a time of 2:22.27.

Sarah Berger and Alexa Leppelmeier went 1-2 in the 5,000 meter run with times of 16:45.8 and 17:51.49, respectively. Berger's time not only set a new school record, but also hit the NCAA Division II provo mark as well. Kayla Balfour was seventh with a time of 18:32.31.

Kaitlyn Barber was the final first place winner for the women as she won the pole vault with a height of 3.83 meters.

Karley Dougherty was second in the javelin at 37.43 meters. Rodgers was fifth with a distance of 33.86 meters. Chelsea Johnson finished third in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 11:17.51.

Both relays teams had successful days. The 4x100 meter relay team of Meredith Fennell, Raquel Jones, Emily Joyce, and Katie Mokros finished third with a time of 51.07. The 4x400 meter relay team of Clarise Culhane, Rachael Kotoch, Soehnlen, and Smith finished third with a time of 4:10.92.

Malia Turley finished third in the hammer throw with a distance of 47.91 meters. Payton Breehl was eighth with a distance of 41.91 meters.

Alexandra Rodgers was fourth in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 16.35. Gracey Radwany was eighth in the same event with a time of 17.03.

Morrisa Mallory was fourth in the shot put with a throw of 12.18 meters. Paige Groves was fifth with a mark of 11.78 meters. Mallory was also fifth in the discus with a throw of 36.45 meters. Ndidiamaka Anaraodo was seventh with a throw of 35.43 meters.

Brianna Coy finished fifth in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 4:52.17. Maggie Kroll was sixth in the same event with a time of 4:53.37. Dominique Foley was fifth in the high jump with a mark of 1.55 meters.

Walsh will be back in action next week as it hosts its only meet of the season. Select athletes will also be in action at Bucknell in the Bison Classic.
