(NEW ORLEANS) – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has announced the All-Region honorees for the 2018 NCAA Division II outdoor track & field season. For Walsh, six athletes highlight the list, three men and three women, in eight separate events.
The top-5 individuals in each event from each region earned All-Region distinction, in addition to each of the members of the regions' top-3 relay teams. The regions used for this award – Atlantic, Central, East, Midwest, South, South Central, Southeast and West – match those used during the indoor track & field season.
On the men's side, a total of 688 athletes earned 935 All-Region honors from 176 different institutions. A total of 640 women from 151 different institutions picked up 929 All-Region honors.
For the Cavaliers, Steve Kapes, Jacob Kernell, and Marcus Myers earned designation on the men's side. Kapes was named for the 10,000 meters, Kernell was named for the steeplechase, and Myers was named for the hammer throw. Myers was also the top performer in his event in the region.
Kaitlyn Barber, Sarah Berger, and Andra Lehotay were named for the women. Berger earned multiple honors as she was named All-Region in the 800 meters, 1,500 meters, steeplechase, and 5,000 meters. Barber was named in the pole vault while Lehotay joined Berger as a selection in the 1,500 meters.
Berger was the top performer in three of the events she earned honors for: the 1,500 meters, steeplechase, and 5,000 meters.
The group will attempt to go for All-American honors next week at the national championships which will be held in Charlotte, N.C., May 24 through 26.
