(ALLIANCE, Ohio) - Men's and women's track opened their indoor season yesterday with the Toy Drive Invite hosted by Mount Union. Multiple athletes took first in their events and shattered school records in the process.
On the women's side, Walsh placed 1-5 in the weight throw, led by Malia Turley's record breaking throw of 17.12 m. Annie Fahey placed second, Olivia King finished third, Mariah Porter secured fourth place, and Payton Breehl rounded out the top five.
Jetaiya Smith put on an impressive performance, as she demolished the standing school record in the 500 m run with a time of 1:16:8. Megan Soehnlen ran a 1:18:3 which also would have been a school record.
Walsh swept the 800 m relay as the team made up of Contrucci, Shane, Harder, and Read finished first in the men's race with a time of 1:34.31. The women's 800 m relay team made up of Culhane, Stewart, Stone, and Radwany won their race with a time of 1:57.62.
Other notable performances on the day include Morissa Mallory's winning throw of 13.23 m in the shot put and Juanita Gray's time of 26.2 that won her the 200 m dash.
The men's and women's track teams will compete at the Youngstown State Ice Breaker and Kent State Gala meets this weekend.
