NORTH CANTON, Ohio - Following the 2018-19 school year, the Walsh Cavaliers athletic department has announced the 2018-19 Male and Female Athletes of the Year as voted on by the head coaches and athletic administration.

Andra Lehotay and Andrew Czech have been named Female and Male Athletes of the Year, in their respective genders.

Andra Lehotay

Lehotay, a member of the Women's Cross Country and Track & Field teams, had an accomplished 2018-19 school year across three seasons. In cross country, Lehotay was USTFCCCA (United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association) Midwest All-Region, All-Conference First Team and All-Ohio on the course as a NCAA D2 National Qualifier.

She was the G-MAC Champion in the Indoor Mile and 800 Meter Run and the Outdoor 1500 Meter Run. The Great Midwest Athletic Conference named her the G-MAC Female Indoor Track Athlete of the Meet and eventually, G-MAC Female Indoor Track Athlete of the Year. Overall, the junior earned five All-Conference honors in the two seasons with Indoor and Outdoor Track (Indoor Mile, Indoor 800, Indoor DMR, Outdoor 1500, Outdoor 800). The USTFCCCA named her Midwest All-Region in four different events (DMR, Mile, 800, and 1500).

Off the course and track, she finished the 2018-19 school year with a 4.0 GPA as a Government/Foreign Affairs major. She was named Academic All-American in Cross Country, Indoor Track & Field and Outdoor Track & Field along with Academic All-Conference.

Andrew Czech

Czech had a spectacular season on the Cavaliers Baseball team, which earned him Walsh Male Athlete of the Year. He earned three First Team All-American honors from three different organizations (American Baseball Coaches Association, National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and Division II Conference Commissioners Association), becoming the first player in program history as an ABCA First Team All-American. He also found himself as a First Team Midwest All-Region honoree by the ABCA, NCBWA and D2CCA. The ABCA named Czech as the best position player in the Midwest.

The hard-hitting first baseman punished G-MAC pitching en route to being named G-MAC Player of the Year and First Team All-Conference. His resume had him hitting .417 with 73 hits and 58 runs scored. He led the league with 63 RBI, 144 total bases, 44 walks, and an on base percentage of .823. Czech set the program record for home runs in a single season with 17, which was the second most in the conference.
