Season Opening Schedule Change: Baseball News and Notes

NORTH CANTON, Ohio - The Walsh Cavaliers baseball team has some news and notes as they prepare to open the 2019 regular season this weekend at California (Pa.). 


Due to inclement weather in the weekend forecast, the season will now start on Friday (Feb. 22) with a doubleheader at 1:00 PM from Wild Things Park. As of this writing, the doubleheader for Sunday is remaining at the same time but more details will come on the Walsh Athletics website and our Twitter account @WalshCavaliers. 


Senior OF Eric Conner was named an American Baseball Coaches Association D2 Preseason Midwest Region All-American. Conner is coming off a junior season where he hit .362 with 71 hits, 11 homeruns and 46 RBI as an All-Conference First Team selection. 


The ABCA also named junior first baseman Andrew Czech as a Player to Watch for the 2019 season. Czech had a team-high batting average of .368, scored 55 runs, hit 18 doubles, 15 homeruns and 52 RBI. He was All-Conference Second Team last season. 


According to College Factual, the Walsh baseball program was ranked 32nd of the Division II student-athlete rankings. The program ranks in the top 15% of baseball schools and jumps five spots from last year's rankings. The ranking take into account the competitiveness of the program and the academic progress of the student-athletes in terms of the best fit for student-athletes.
