COLUMBUS, Ohio – With the help of two five-run innings, the Walsh Cavaliers baseball managed a series split with the Ohio Dominican Panthers on Monday (April 29) in the series finale.
Walsh scored five runs in the first and fourth innings on the way to a 13-2 win against the Panthers.
The first inning saw ten men bat as the Cavaliers plated five runs. After Eric Conner set the career doubles record, Andrew Czech singled home Conner for a 1-0 lead. Joey Holiga lined a two-run double to left field before Cobe Hutchison singled home a pair of runs.
Walsh added two runs in the second inning as Cam Kaiser walked with the bases loaded and Holiga hit a sacrifice fly to right field. The Cavaliers led 7-0 after two innings.
Czech tied the single season home run record with his 16th homerun of the season, a solo shot to right field in the third inning.
Ohio Dominican broke through with a run in the bottom of the third inning.
In the fourth inning, the Cavaliers scored five runs on six hits with nine men batting. Hutchison started the scoring with a RBI single. Bailey Mosley roped a two-run single prior to Conner's two-run blast.
The Panthers closed the scoring with a run in the eighth.
Czech had three hits, including his record-tying homer along with two walks as he scored three runs. Holiga and Hutchison finished with two hits, three RBI and a run scored. Conner ended with his record-setting double and his sixth homerun of the year. He scored twice and drove in two runs. Brenden Spaulding had two hits and Mosley plated two runs.
Brant Alazaus earned the win with six innings of one-run ball. He scattered seven hits and one walk while he struck out three batters. Anthony Krokos and Frank Frate pitched scoreless innings with one hit allowed.
The Cavaliers will travel to West Liberty on Wednesday (May 1) at 3:00 PM.
