(INDIANAPOLIS) – The Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Football Preseason Coaches Poll presented by Under Armour for 2018 has been released and Walsh has been selected to finish fifth. The Cavaliers, under the guidance Head Coach John Fankhauser, received 34 points in the nine-team field.
The Maroon and Gold received a fifth place selection last year in Walsh's first year in the conference. The Cavs improved upon that pick by one spot and finished fourth with a 4-3 league record. It was the first time Walsh finished over .500 in conference play in the NCAA era.
Ohio Dominican was selected to repeat as conference champion with five first place votes and 59 total points. National qualifier Findlay has been selected second with two first place votes and 54 points.
Hillsdale and G-MAC newcomer Tiffin each picked up one of the remaining first place votes. The Chargers were selected third with 51 points to edge the Dragons with 48.
Following the Cavaliers are Malone with 27 points, Alderson Broaddus with 23, Lake Erie with 15, and Kentucky Wesleyan with 13.
The Cavs will kick off the season on the road against former conference foe Wayne State on Thursday, Aug. 30, at 6 p.m. Walsh will play two more games before opening G-MAC play with Tiffin on Saturday, Sept. 22, at 1 p.m.
