Walsh & Lake Erie Battle for Pride & Passion Trophy

NORTH CANTON, Ohio - Saturday's game between the Lake Erie Storm and the Walsh Cavaliers will have some ring to it as the two teams will meet at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium. The teams will battle for a traveling trophy, dubbed the Pride & Passion Trophy, for the first time in the series between the two programs. 

GAMEDAY INFORMATION

The Opening Kickoff

  • The Pride & Passion Trophy is on the line for the first time ever as the Walsh Cavaliers will head north to Painesville, Ohio for a G-MAC matchup with the Lake Erie Storm on Saturday (Oct. 5). 
  • The Cavaliers fell 30-0 to Hillsdale in Michigan last week, falling to 0-4 overall and 0-2 in the G-MAC. 
  • Tadas Tatarunas completed nine passes for 56 yards with one interception in his third game (second start). He should make his first start at "home" on Saturday as he played at Mentor High School, just minutes from the Britt. 
    • In three games, he is 22-for-58 with 142 yards passing and two interceptions.
  • Quinn Thomas caught three passes for 23 yards while Logan Lindsay made two catches for 14 yards. 
  • The Cavaliers defense made ten tackles for loss, totaling 32 yards against Hillsdale. 
  • Leondre Crosby made 5.5 tackles for loss by himself, including 1.5 sacks as well. 
    • He is third in the G-MAC with 6.5 tackles for loss this season. 
  • Walsh and Lake Erie add a trophy to the series after six meetings, which Lake Erie holds a 4-2 advantage. Walsh has won the last two meetings by a combined score of 60-7.
    • Walsh shut out the Storm last season with a 29-0 win in Painesville, holding the Storm to 31 yards of offense.

  • Reilly Murphy is in his first season as head coach of the Storm, after he was an Offensive Coordinator at Fayetteville State. 
  • Eric Zokouri ranks fourth in the G-MAC with 78.8 rushing yards per game.
  • Javarian Smith is sixth in the conference with 205.8 passing yards per game this season.
  • Nate Dantley Jr. has compiled 96.8 receiving yards per game for the Storm, ranking second in the league. 
  • Justin Growel and Tareeq Welch were named G-MAC Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week last week. 

Walsh will return home to North Canton and host the Findlay Oilers on Saturday (Oct. 12) at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium.
