(COLUMBUS, Ohio) - Walsh cruised to its seventh consecutive victory with an 85-59 decision over Ohio Dominican in Alumni Hall. The No. 23 Cavaliers (18-3, 14-3) had one of its finest shooting nights of the season as they made 31-of-52 from the field for a blazing 59.6 percent clip. The Panthers (5-17, 3-15) remained close early but couldn't keep up with the Cavs as they shot 35 percent on the night.
The initial separation came midway through the first half when Walsh went on a 12-1 run to go up 26-13. ODU eventually cut the deficit back down to seven, but Walsh went on a small 7-0 run to go up 33-19 with 6:30 to go in the first half.
It was just a sign of things to come as the second half easily belonged to the Cavs. Up 42-31 at the break, Walsh went on a 38-12 run over the first 12:25 of the second half to take the Panthers out of the game. The 80-43 lead was the Cavs' largest of the game.
Jeff Copeland (Jr., 6-5, Toledo, OH/St. John's Jesuit) was the driving force for Walsh tonight as he finished we 23 points on 11-of-13 from the field. When he wasn't shooting the basketball, he was setting up his teammates with seven assists. Defensively he led the Cavaliers with seven rebounds as well.
Walsh was a force inside as the Cavs doubled up the Panthers in points inside the paint at 40-20. They weren't too bad outside either as Walsh made 9-of-19 3-point attempts.
The Cavs remain a half-game ahead of Findlay in the division standings and will return to North Canton for their final two home games for the regular season. First up will be Tiffin which will enter Alumni Arena on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
