(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – Walsh rolled to a 91-47 victory over visiting Houghton College (N.Y.) to open up the new season. While the Cavaliers are 1-0, the game served as an exhibition for the Highlanders who are member of NCAA Division III and the Empire 8 Conference.
The Cavaliers led from start to finish and dominated almost all aspects of the game. By halftime, Walsh led 50-15 after shooting 55.9 percent from the field. The 3-pointer was a specialty as the Maroon and Gold made 6-of-10 from behind the arc and were 10-of-18 for the game. On the defensive end, the Cavs stifled Houghton into shooting just 22.7 percent in the first 20 minutes. The Cavs only got hotter in the second half as they made 59.1 percent from the floor.
On the offensive end, Jesse Hardin (So., 6-1, Warren, OH/Harding) led with a game-high 16 points. He also had three steals to boost the defense. Trey Fletcher (Fr., 6-6, Ironton, OH/HS) was impressive in his collegiate debut with 13 points. Hrvoje Vucic (Sr., 7-1, Split, Croatia/Faust Vrancic/Valparaiso) added 10 points.
This was the 21st time the two schools have played each other with Walsh coming out on top in every game.
The Cavs will return to action a week from today as they host Wilberforce in a non-conference clash.
