Cavs Take Bite Out of Bulldogs on Nick Pallotta Day


(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) - Walsh (2-0) led from start-to-finish in hammering Wilberforce University (0-7) 1121-68 on Nick Pallotta Day at Walsh. The Cavs retired Pallotta's number 44 in pregame ceremonies.  Pallotta, the first All-American at Walsh, passed away this summer. Nick totaled 1,279 points in a Walsh uniform from 1964 to 1966.

The Cavs shot 55% from the floor in the first half and led 57-33 at the break. They led by as many as 29 points (48-19) in the first 20 minutes to settle the issue.

Despite shooting just 43% in the second half, Walsh equaled their first half output of 55 points to coast to the win.

Walsh placed six players in double figures, led by Trey Fletcher's (6-6, 220, Fr., Ironton, OH/HS) career-high 20 points. Fletcher was 8-10 from the floor and also grabbed a game-high seven rebounds off the bench. Jeff Copeland (6-5, Jr., Toledo, OH/St. John's Jesuit) tallied 18 points on 6-11 from the floor to go with six rebounds.. 

Chall Montgomery (6-4, So., Cleveland, OH/Central Catholic/Naval Academy) chipped in 15 points off the bench and Hrvoje Vucic (7-1, Sr., Split, Croatia/Faust Vrancic/Valparaiso) added 14 points. Vucic was 6-9 shooting and had six rebounds.

Davonte Beard (6-2, Jr., Akron, OH/St. Vincent-St. Mary/Siena) added 12 and Jesse Hardin (6-1, So., Warren, OH/Harding) 11 points.  Brad DuPont (6-0, Sr., Massillon, OH/Jackson/Wheeling Jesuit) dished out 10 assists.

The Cavs play their first road game on Saturday, November 23 at St. Joseph College in Indiana at 3 pm CST, 4 pm Ohio time. The game will be broadcast live on WNPQ, 95.9 FM.
