(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – Walsh fell to visiting Ashland by a score of 70-64 in GLIAC action at Alumni Arena on Thursday evening. The Cavaliers fall to 10-10 on the season and 8-8 within the conference. The Eagles improve to 18-4 and 12-4 in the same designations.
The Eagles jumped out to an early lead and staved off a late rally by the Cavaliers. Ashland led 48-31 with 13:17 to go in the game, but a 13-0 run by the Cavs put them back in the game. With 4:14 to go, Jesse Hardin Jr. hit a big 3-pointer in which he was fouled and sank the ensuing free throw to make the score 63-61.
The two teams exchanged the next four baskets as Chall Montgomery scored the final basket in that run to make the score 66-64, but the Cavs could get no closer than two points.
Three Cavaliers scored in double figures led by Trey Fletcher with 18 points and a career-high 13 rebounds for his second double-double of the year. Both Montgomery and Hardin Jr. scored 15 each. Hardin Jr. was 5-of-10 from the field and 4-of-8 from behind the 3-point stripe.
Wendell Davis scored a game-high 20 points to pace the Eagles.
Walsh will look to get back in the win column against Lake Erie on Saturday. Tip-off with the Storm is set for 3 p.m. from Painesville.
