(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – The GLIAC Tournament Semifinals has been a familiar place for the Walsh men's basketball team. On Saturday evening, the Cavaliers (15-12) will make their third consecutive appearance in the conference "Final Four," the only team who can lay claim to that achievement. There they will face the No. 5-seed Chargers (18-9).
The Cavs and Chargers have met eight times previously with Hillsdale leading the all-time series 6-2. The first meeting between the two teams took place during the 1972-73 season. Hillsdale won the previous meeting this season in a high scoring 94-90 affair.
Walsh's win against Saginaw Valley State on Tuesday put it in rare company as one of three No. 8 seeds to defeat a No. 1 seed in the GLIAC Tournament.
Jesse Hardin Jr. led the Cavaliers in that game with 34 points as he went 12-of-22 from the field and 7-of-13 from 3-point range. The All-GLIAC First Team selection ranks sixth in the nation with 3.56 3-pointers made per game. He leads the conference with 89 triples.
Hillsdale is led by Kyle Cooper, who tops the Chargers in scoring, rebounding, field goal percentage, 3-point percentage, and free throw percentage. He leads the conference with 22.6 points per game.
Tip-off with the Chargers is set for 6:30 p.m.
