  • Berger, Carter Named 16-17 Athletes of the Year

    The votes are in and Sarah Berger and Zac Carter have been selected as the 2016-17 Walsh University Athletes of the Year. It’s the third consecutive year Berger has been honored as she continues to cement her legacy as a Cavalier. Carter had a season for the record books and accomplished feats not seen for many years at Walsh.

    Zac Carter continues to garner postseason accolades after he was named to the Division II Conference Commissioners Association Men’s Basketball All-Midwest Region Second Team. Carter was also selected to the All-GLIAC First Team two weeks ago.

    The dynamic duo of Zac Carter and Trey Fletcher have been named to 2016-17 All-GLIAC First Team after finishing their careers with an incredible season for the Cavaliers. The teammates who played together since before high school led the conference in points with 24.6 and 22.5 points per game, respectively.
  • Buzzer-Beater Spoils Senior Night For Cavaliers

    A buzzer-beating 3-pointer spoiled Senior Night for Walsh as it fell 88-85 in overtime to Findlay to close out the season. The Cavaliers end the year at 16-11 overall and 9-11 in the GLIAC. The Oilers head to the GLIAC Tournament as the division champion with a record of 22-5 and 16-4.

    Steven Carpenter was sent to the line with two seconds left and provided the winning points as Walsh defeated Tiffin 87-86 in the final road game of the season. The Cavaliers improved to 16-10 overall and 9-10 in the GLIAC while the Dragons dropped to 11-16 overall and 6-13 in the conference.

    The final road game of the season will take place for the Walsh men’s basketball team tomorrow as it heads west to Tiffin. The Cavaliers stand at 15-10 overall and 8-10 in the conference, while the Dragons come in at 11-15 overall and 6-12 in the GLIAC.
  • Fletcher Joins Elite Company, But Walsh Falls At Ashland

    Trey Fletcher scored 25 points to pass another scoring milestone in the vast history of the men’s basketball program, but Walsh still fell on the road to Ashland 78-69. With his 13th point in the game, he passed Bob Boldon to become one of the top five all-time scorers in Cavaliers history.

    In the penultimate home game of the season, Walsh caught fire and demolished Ohio Dominican 98-65 to remain a half-game back of third place in the South Division. The Cavaliers (15-9, 8-9) opened the game on a 35-8 run and never looked back and led the Panthers (13-11, 8-10) by at least 18 the rest of the way.

The Cavaliers’ (13-5, 6-5) four-game win streak was snapped in the process, but they still remain a half-game ahead of the Panthers (11-7, 6-6) in the GLIAC Standings.

    Zac Carter’s jumper just inside the 3-point line at the top of the key with one second left gave Walsh a 79-77 victory over Hillsdale at Potter Arena. The Cavaliers (12-4, 5-4) held off the Chargers (7-9, 3-7) as they came back from five points down in the final 1:56 of play.

    A career-high 37 points from Zac Carter helped Walsh hold off Lake Erie by a score of 84-81 in the GLIAC South Division opener on Saturday afternoon. The senior point guard has now scored 33 or more points in four of his last five games and at least 25 in his last six.

    The Walsh men's basketball team returns to conference action as it hosts Lake Erie from Alumni Arena on Saturday afternoon. It will be the first game against the South Division for the Cavaliers (11-4, 4-4) while the Storm (3-14, 2-7) started division play on the road at Tiffin.
