(COLUMBUS, Ohio) - The Walsh University Men's Basketball team put on an outstanding performance in Columbus today while they battled the Panthers from Ohio Dominican. Coming away with a 80-62 victory, the Cavaliers are now 15-7 overall, 10-4 in the GMAC.
The Cavaliers got off to a hot start going on a 9-0 run in the first 4 minutes of the game. They quickly capitalized on a dominating offensive performance, and in an overall combined team effort shot 50 percent from behind the arc in the first half. Sterling Christy led the pack with a masterful offensive performance with 29 points, a career high for the Junior. He also contributed 7 rebounds and 2 assists on the day in the Cavalier victory. JT Shumate added 20 points for the Cavs and went 4-4 from the free throw line and 2 for 3 from behind the arc. Shumate also added 6 rebounds for the Cavs.
Conner Wess led a powerful charge for the Maroon and Gold banking 3 3-pointers in the first half to help give the Cavaliers some momentum early on. He later added another bucket from behind the arc in the second half to put up 16 total points. Darryl Straughter also added 10 points for the Cavs and 4 rebounds.
The Cavaliers would go on to shoot 78 percent from the free throw line and an impressive 55 percent as a team from the field.
The Panther's were led by Hasan Varence with 18 points.
The Maroon and Gold travel to Davis & Elkins Thursday to battle the Senators at 5:30.
