INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana - After a record-setting performance against Maryville on Saturday (Nov. 9), Walsh junior Darryl Straughter was named Great Midwest Player of the Week on Monday (Nov. 11) for men's basketball.
As the Cavaliers went 2-0 in the GLVC/G-MAC Crossover at Tiffin, Straughter finished with 47 points (23.5 PPG) in two games on 59% (16-27) shooting and 71% (15-21) from three point land.
Against Maryville, Straughter rained threes in the Gillmor Center as he finished with 30 points on a school record ten three pointers and also tied the conference single-game record for threes in a game. The junior shot 10-of-15 from the floor and 10-of-13 from deep in 35 minutes.
He added 17 points on six-of-12 shooting (including 5-of-8 from downtown) in the Cavaliers 76-58 win over Missouri-St. Louis on Sunday (Nov. 10).
After the opening weekend, Straughter is ranked second in the conference for scoring and leads in three pointers and three point percentage.
Walsh hosts Franciscan on Tuesday (Nov. 12) afternoon for Catholic School Day at Alumni Arena. Tipoff for the game is set for 12:00 PM.
