Men's Basketball Sets New Program Record in Win over Lakers

(NORTH CANTON, Ohio)- The Walsh University Men's Basketball team put on another showstopping team performance in their win over Wright State Lake on Saturday. In the Cavaliers 123-62 victory, a contribution from all Cavs on the court was key in their record breaking day.

For the Cavaliers, Darryl Straughter would lead his team with 33 total points, 24 of which came from behind the arc. He would beat last weekends previous game high of 30 in the GLVC/GMAC Crossover after shooting 12-18 on the floor against the Lakers. Six Cavaliers would add to the Maroon and Golds record breaking performance with the most three pointers made in a single game. The current record was 19 shots from behind the arc, but yesterday, the Cavaliers would drop a whopping 24 to set a new program record. Of the 24 three pointers made, Straughter, Mokros and Bogan would tally 18 of them. Mark Mokros would add 17 points total and 6 rebounds for the Cavs.

Sterling Christy and JT Shumate would each add double-doubles to the Cavs win. Christy would dominate on the glass with 15 rebounds and 14 points on the day while Shumate added 11 points and 10 boards for the Cavaliers.  The Maroon and Gold would go on to outrebound the Lakers 61-39.

Coming off the bench, Conner Wess racked up 13 points and 5 rebounds while teammate Reece Bogan put on a show sinking 5 three pointers to add to his 17 points.

The Cavaliers take the week off before stepping on the court again next Saturday at home against Penn St. Altoona in Alumni Arena at 2 pm.
