(ROCHESTER, NY)- The Walsh University Men's Lacrosse team traveled to Rochester, New York to battle the Redhawks from Roberts Wesleyan in what would end up as a hard faught battle on the road. The Cavaliers fell just short of a victory in their 11-9 loss putting them at 0-3 on the season.
For the Cavaliers, a strong first half kept the Maroon and Gold in contention over the Redhawks. Brian Apshago would lead the Cavaliers in goals scored with 4 total, which all came in the first half of the game. The Cavaliers would go on to outscore Roberts Wesleyan 7-2 in the second period with an all around team effort. Sully Dowling, Evan Bradley, Maurice Kelly and Brydan Heisler would each contribute a goal to put the Cavs on top of the Redhawks 8-5 heading into the midway point of the game.
A late rally from the Rehawks in the third period would put them on top 10-8 with 1:57 to play. An offensive run and a last minute goal by Tyler Stowell with the assist from Heisler would put the Cavs down just one, 9-10, to end the third period and would give the Cavaliers some momentum heading into the fourth period. A back and forth defensive battle between the Cavs and Redhawks would lead to a low scoring fourth period and a Cavalier loss over the Redhawks.
