Men's Lacrosse Drops Contest at Catawba, 15-6

SALISBURY, N.C. – The Walsh Cavaliers men's lacrosse team began their trip down South with a non-conference matchup against the Catawba Indians on Sunday (March 3) afternoon.

The Cavaliers fell 15-6 in their fourth contest of the season.

Evan Bradley opened the contest on an assist from Brydan Heisler one minute in. Catawba scored three straight goals, taking a 3-1 lead with five minutes left in the first quarter. Brent Mitchell cut the lead to one with an unassisted goal with 1:27 to go in the first. The Indians led 5-2 after one quarter with two goals in the final minute.

The second quarter was a defensive battle as the Indians scored two goals in the frame. With 12 seconds left, Mitchell connected on a man-up goal, assisted by Tyler Stowell. Walsh trailed 7-3 at the intermission.

Catawba scored the first four goals over the first eight minutes of the second half. Preston Coffman scored a man-up goal on an assist by Bradley with three minutes left. Seconds later, Kevin McMahon went back-to-back off a feed from Jake Cieszynski. The Indians ended the third quarter with two more goals, leading 13-5.

After the Indians scored two goals to start the fourth quarter, Walsh closed the scoring with a man-up goal by Brian Asphago, assisted by Bradley. Catawba defeated the Cavaliers 15-6.

Mitchell had two goals while Bradley scored three points with one goal and two assists.  

Cieszynski led the Cavaliers with nine groundballs. Andrew Singer, Kyle Lacey and Bradley each had three groundballs each.

Patrick Cuddihy made 20 saves in the goal.

The Cavaliers will continue the road trip with a 1:00 PM start at Mount Olive on Tuesday (March 5).
