ASHLAND, Ohio - Just like the previous two games, the Walsh Cavaliers' men's soccer team loves to make things interesting with late goals. Dwight Van Dyke netted a hat trick, including the game-winner in the 87th minute as Walsh defeated Ashland 3-2 on Wednesday (Sept. 11) night at Ferguson Field.
Ashland opened the scoring in the ninth minute before Van Dyke tied the game and put the Cavaliers on top. He scored two goals within 65 seconds in the 17th and 18th minutes, putting the Cavs up 2-1 through the rest of the first half.
The game was tied in the 55th minute on an own goal. The game remained tied through the 87th minute when Van Dyke capped his night with an unassisted goal.
Van Dyke completed the first Walsh hat trick since October 24th, 2017 against Malone.
Ashland outshot the Cavaliers 11-8 in the game. Ethan Burawa earned the win in goal with three saves.
Walsh will host Slippery Rock on Saturday (Sept. 14) at 7:30 PM in the home opener at Milazzo Field.
