(YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio) – The Walsh men's track & field season started today at the Youngstown State Icebreaker Invitational. A limited amount of Cavaliers were in action, but the Maroon and Gold still found many placers through the day.
The highlight came in the 5,000 meter run as Mark Hadley edged out YSU's own Ryan Sullivan for first. Hadley clocked in with a time of 14:49.08, two seconds better than Sullivan. Jacob Kernell was third at 15:02.6. Lane Knoch was the only other placer in a track event with a time of 8.36 in the 60 meter hurdles.
Walsh had three placers each in both the weight throw and the shot put. Marcus Myers placed second in the weight with a distance of 18.07 meters. His mark also cleared the NCAA Division II provisional mark. Brad Gallitz was fourth at 16.7 meters and Dante Penza was fifth at 16.21 meters.
Penza and Gallitz also placed in the shot put with Derek Stout also placing between them. Penza was fourth at 15.71 meters, Stout was sixth at 15.07 meters, and Gallitz was eighth at 14.63 meters.
