(NEW ORLEANS) – The Walsh women's cross country team has made some strides in this week's USTFCCCA National Coaches Poll with a rise of two spots to No. 10. The Cavaliers return to the top 10 after spending a few weeks there last season where they reached as high as No. 9 nationally.
The Maroon and Gold are recently coming off of a great race in the All-Ohio Championships where they finished second overall out of 38 teams and first among Division II / NAIA schools. Brianna Coy finished in the top five overall and first in the Division II / NAIA grouping. As a result, she was named G-MAC Athlete of the Week.
The Cavaliers moved passed fellow G-MAC member Hillsdale in both the national and regional polls. Walsh is now No. 2 in the regional poll behind Grand Valley State, which is ranked No. 2 nationally and led by former Cavalier and graduate transfer Sarah Berger.
The men's team remains in the top 20 nationally at No. 19, down one spot from a week ago. The Walsh men remained No. 4 in the Midwest Regional rankings behind Grand Valley State, Southern Indiana, and Saginaw Valley State. The Lakers are also No. 2 in the men's national poll. Adams State remains No. 1 nationally as well.
The Cavaliers are back in action for the second consecutive weekend with a loaded meet with a conference crossover hosted by Lewis University. Those races will take place on Saturday.
