Softball Falls In Two At Dome Invite

(ROSEMONT, Ill.) – The Walsh softball team dropped both games in the season opening day at the Dome Invitational just outside of Chicago on Friday. The Cavaliers dropped the first game to Lindenwood by a score of 5-1 before a 6-4 defeat to Lewis to close the day.

In the opener, Walsh tied the game at 1-1 in the fifth when Kesley Putman singled up the middle to bring in Nikki Newman from third. Newman opened the frame with a triple to right.

Lindenwood responded with a late rally with four runs on five hits and an error in the bottom of the sixth.

In the nightcap against Lewis, the Cavs used a rally of their own in the seventh to attempt a comeback. Kirsten Reed started the rally with a triple down the left field line to bring in Leah Roten and Putman. Two batters later, Danni Murtaugh singled to center to score Reed, but Walsh was unable to get the final two runs to tie.

Jenna Head scored the other run in the top of the fifth.

The Maroon and Gold will return to action with games against Missouri S&T and William Jewell tomorrow in the Dome Invitational.
